more cards for challenges

I am not usually a fairies kind of gal but thought I'd try it. This is for the Color Challenge at PaperCraftPlanet (pcpcolor16) The fairies were colored with generic colored pencils (they look washed out here but in real life they are much better) and the blue frame is an attempt to have graduated colors. The base card is cream/vanilla, the embossed dk. purple is hopefully "perfect" plum, and the plaid ribbon brings in the pale plum, the polka dotted flower is the only true navy color I could find but there is some dark blue around the fairies as well as what I hope is garden green. I tried to follow the sketch provided by Amy at Prairie Paper & Ink.

This card is for my card group challenge of black & blue colors and PaperCraftPlanet's Saturday Sketch Challenge sc042509. The light blue papers are a bit washed out again (at least on my monitor, and I will admit that is is slowly dying so it might not be that bad on another screen) but the top half of the background is a marbled creative memories paper and the bottom is a solid in the same CM pack. The ribbon is all I had of that so thankfully it went around the part it needed to and still made a bow (only trimmed out triangles to make notched ends). both images were Google Images/clip art and colored with whatever colored pencils I had available (some Crayola, Prang, RoseArt, etc.) at work.

Tessellation

A couple of weeks ago I made a Tessellation. The kids made one and after I was finished helping my charges, I made one also. This was my second one. (First one down below) Can you imagine what this could look like using scrapbook papers? May have to try that. My favorite Tessellation artist is M.C. Escher. I've got a looooooooooong way to go to be anywhere near Escher's talent. LOL

Great Garage Sale find!

Whoo Hoo! Can't wait to find time to stamp them out and try my hand at coloring them (bought them Thursday morning). They seem like good candidates for pastel colors/colored pencils. At the top is a stamp that says "mon ami" and another that is an acorn that somehow missed being in the camera shot even thought I thought I had it in my viewfinder (I must have moved when I pressed the shutter release - that is why I scan my cards and not take photos of them).

My first card posted to PCP and SCS. The Card is following the April 18 PaperCraftPlanet sketch and SplitCoastStamper's color for week of 4-20-09 (or my close approximation of the Red/Pink/Gray colors). This card is going to my Mother In Law who loves sheep. I printed the Mary had a Little Lamb coloring page (shrunk down to a manageable size for cards) then used generic coloring pencils to color the image. I don't remember the paper name, but I'm sure it came in one of those 180 paper packs from Hobby Lobby, and the cardstock was probably from Walmart. The only think I know for sure is the flowers came from Oriental Trading Company.

Improved Masculine Birthday Card

OK, I took some gold powder and rubbed with my finger all over the square image and then took some waxed hemp string and tied it in the corner. I do think that makes it better. I'm still not sure if it's "enough" but it will have to be since I ought to get this and the Asian cards in the mail. Maybe I could rub that gold powder on the inside edge and that will make the cut edge stand out more. If I didn't know it was there, I wouldn't even see it. A year from now when I look back at my blog and the cards made, I won't understand what I'm seeing if I don't read my words about my works. (how's that for alliteration - Grin)

a day of cardmaking

First I cut this cream card using my Cricut and Sure Cuts a Lot . I stamped the image in brown ink using my new Angel company Sea Side stamp and colored it in all sorts of brown pencils for a monochromatic look. I think I'm going to add some fiber to it because it still seems plain to me. I'm thinking of lacing brown embroidery floss thru the holes...I'll see what I come up with and post the updated version tomorrow.


Then I made place cards for my MIL's Easter dinner table. There's 14 of them all together but these three show you what I did. I cut the scalloped circles with SCAL and my baby bug using someone else's Deliah flower file. The folded card is just a 4" by 3" rectangle folded at the 1 1/2" mark. I stamped the new Spring TAC stamp and let my oldest son color them with pencils. He's been begging me to let him color when I've been coloring for my card swaps and this was at time that a grandmother would appreciate the results (but not my swappers). I stamped with a script font (not TAC) the names of each guest in a light blue ink color that matched the scalloped paper (I don't know why it didn't show up but that's fine by me so that I continue the anominity of everyone - inclucing family members).


Below: Cards for an Asain themed swap. I had to ask someone to send some images to me so I could join this swap. I usually do the same thing for each swap, that way no one feels like one card was better than another, but this time I chose to use different images. I still used the same basic layout and colors.


Below is another card made using SCAL and a cut file made by another gal. I stamped flowers using a two-step stamp and masked off the flowers so that I'd have overlapped flowers. I used a sheet of plain typing weight paper but it seems to have been too thick because it didn't allow the second image to stamp close. Inside I stamped Happy Mother's Day inside. I'm ready for Mother's day which is a good thing since I never got my Easter cards made (except for the swap cards I sent).

Since I didn't create any of these, I can not share the SCAL files.

and do I have a lot of cards to show. :) I've been busy, then sick, then busy again and just haven't had time or desire to do anything. Maybe the next couple of weeks, my son will be MAP testing at his school so I won't have to stand over him to make him do his homework so that'll give me time to page plan for a 12 hour crop next weekend.

First are some cards that I've gotten for the Green/Orange/Pink/Yellow swap.
Then I have a "For You" and two "Birds" cards received. Kind of funny that two people used the same image.

Then I have a couple of circle cards and a corners card from those swaps.

Finally, I have some more that I made. The green tag is on a white embossed card (doesn't show up well on my computer). Also, the pink cat card is so pale that it's not showing up well either. I just swipped a pink ink pad across the white cardstock and it made a neat "texture" across the front. The glittery pink flowers on the last card are more of those "flora doodles" from Hobby Lobby.
