Welcome back to a new year and the start of 2012's Create a Card's sketches. Our first sketch...

and what I made following it.

Here's the first one that I made with this sketch. I started with the preprinted "Thank You" sentiment that I had. I forgot where I got it from but there were three of them and I had it printed and cut out and wanted to make sure I didn't lose the last two circles. Here's the link to the other card that used the preprinted circle if you care to take a look.

Anyway, back to today's card...

I used two coordinating printed papers and a solid green cardstock to match the green ink in the word "thank".

I did alter the second one just a little. I wanted the multicolored flowers on top instead of bottom but I put the circles to the left and made them the same size. I still put the sentiment on the right - I'm not so sure I like it there. I do like the blue outline with the blue circle.

Time for another Create a Card Sketch. Here's the sketch we were given...
Here's my take on the sketch...

I embossed my red card base and then cut a circle in dark green. Next I used the Cardinal folder to emboss the circle. Then I sprayed copper color spray all over the circle and waited for it to dry so I could glue it down. I kept this one pretty simple.

Here's another Create a Card sketch cardHere's what I did with the sketch...
Here it is again. Above is the photo-edited version, while below is the straight from the scanner version (I still don't see the red looking like it does in real life in either photo).

I used Magic Mesh and since I didn't have to adhere it down with extra adhesive, I'll have to hope it stays on. The corners were created with my Creative Memories punch and the sentiment was made with my computer. The candle image is a CDAC Progressive Challenge image colored with my alcohol markers (no matter what I tried to do, I couldn't get the shading of the white candle to show up). I also used the gold glitter specia pen on the candle and the yellow one on the flame.

Time for another Create a Card sketch
I used this sketch to make a 4.25 by 5.5 card instead of a square card.
I typed the sentiment and printed it with my printer then punched them with my Creative Memories circle punch. I also used the CM circle pattern to cut the larger circle. I cut 1.5 inch strip of paper and ran it through my cuttlebug with the Plum Blossoms folder. To make the flower behind VERY, I used two white acrylic flowers from Queen & Co. Fab Flowers "hottie" but to make them red, I used Alcohol Ink in Cranberry to get them that dark color. It's also the same red, just not as concentrated, on the large circle in the corner.

Here's another CDAC Progressive Challenge image. I also did a Sew Many Cards sketch that I found and a color challenge by A Muse Studio to use French Roast Brown and BubbleGum Pink. The Pink paper is a digital paper called DiamondGirl from Gina K at Stamp TV.

I have two cards to show since I didn't get last week's card posted. First come the sketches...

And here are the cards I made with these sketches...

On this card I used an ivory pre-cut 5x7 card as my base. I cut a dark teal piece of cardstock about 1/2 inch smaller then ran it through my cuttlebug using a tiny floral folder. Then I used a yellow and dark green printed piece of scrapbook paper and cut too much off so I had to decide if I wanted it to go down near the bottom or up near the top. I decided that the flower at the top could even out the sentiment at the bottom so that's why I arranged it the way I did. I then adhered the paper and used an eyelet to attach the flower. Next I used some of the dark teal that was left over, used some dark teal ink to ink the edges and leave the middle a little lighter for the sentiment. I typed up a quote to use on my computer using MS Word, playing with my fonts and the sizes until I was happy with the results. I printed it off on plain paper, put adhesive on the back of the teal rectangle and stuck it on the plain paper and printed it again. This way I knew exactly where it would print and how it would look. I did trim down the teal piece a little bit because I thought it looked nicer showing more yellow around the edges. Finally, I pounded in the brass eyelets. They aren't scrapbooking eyelets but are suppose to be used in a fabric project but I thought they'd be ok for this. I smooshed them a little too much so I used two more of the same tiny green eyelets that I used on the flower and glued them into the middle of the brass ones. The last thing I did was to glue everything onto the 5x7 base.

Although the sketch has measurements, we didn't have to follow them. This card has a simulated marble background that I created with the Adrondack Alchol inks then used the leftover ink in my blending tool to darken the edges of the red card base. I used a pre-printed sentiment and a former CDAC progressive challenge image that had been colored with alcohol markers.

I didn't change my card any except to use a corner rounder on the squares and I haven't put a sentiment/greeting on it yet until I know how I want to use it since this sketch is useful for any occasion.

My card is mostly blue and green. Green horizontal stripes over blue vertical stripes, green ribbon with blue edging, light blue marble print for the decorative edge, and 3 shades of green ink for the Thank You phrase.

Progressive Challenge #4 and a B-day Card for little girl

This card is just to show off this amazing "Mystical" design by Daisy Doodles another image in the Crafters Digital Arts Center Progressive Challenge. Besides the Sew Many Cards image, this was my favorite image for this 4th round (as you may remember, I used to be on the design team for SMC until Cub Scouts took away all my free time). I colored it with my colored pencils. Because of the incritracties of the image, I decided the background needed to be simpler.

This is an image from a previous CDAC challenge. It's hard to tell but the dress and shoes are glittery because they were colored with the Specia pens. Also difficult to tell, the flowers have a little Matte Accent dimension on them. The background was made by taking the edges of border stickers and randomly applying them to the card front. The edge of the image circle was edged with red, while the purple circle and the sentiment "plaque" was edged with green.

I forgot to give this card to the little girl it was intended for (hubby rushed us out the door before I was ready) and had to give her a store bought card.

Isn't that a great quote for fall? And it fits with my image which has falling leaves. I thought she was pretty good to use for my husband's birthday card because her pointed ears could also be considered Vulcan (Star trek fan as well as Lord of the Rings fan).

Here's a close up of the fairy before I trimmed her down for the card. I feel like I even got her blush good and I never had liked how my blush coloring looked before.

This card, is also a card using one of the free images for participapting in the Progressive Challenge at CDAC

Two more challenges: Birthday at Stamps R us and Anything Goes at Party Time Tuesdays.

Also, this weekend, I got a Just Cards magazine because I got published again. I dont have it with me at this computer to tell you what page to look at, but I'm happy to be in there again. It give me "validation" and encouragement since I don't do those beautiful yet froo-froo type cards (I can't imagine the postage required to mail one of those).

The sketch...

And here's what I came up with...

It's a little difficult to see this card but it has an extra fold. The darker part on the left is the outer layer/fold and then there's another fold/layer (that almost reaches the folded edge of the outer layer) with the little butterfly in the upper right corner and then there's the inside of the card for writing. I think it's called a trifold card but I staggered the folds. Then, I used my Sure Cuts a Lot program to cut the scalloped frames (one white, one gold and they were different cutting files so they aren't exactly the same) and the butterflies in three different sizes. The blue striped/zigzag circle in the middle was actually inspiration from a mistake. I cut a circle the wrong size (I realized it when I started cutting but figured I might as well finish the circle and use it for something sometime) then cut the circle in the correct size. Now I had two different sized circles and thought, "Why not keep making smaller and smaller circles and use it because the stripes should make an interesting pattern if I alternate which direction the stripes go." so that's what I did. The final thing I added was the bling, golden rhinestones, to each scallop that showed (which was all I had in that color/size). Because of the fold I gave the card base, I decided that Iwasn't going to use a ribbon (plus I didn't find any rust/blue/gold color I liked).

Time for another Create-A-Card SketchFirst thing you'll notice is that I didn't make this into a tall skinny card but made it be the standard 5x4ish size.
Second thing you'll notice is the lack of horizontal ricrac on the middle paper. I thought the dotted lines that looked like lined paper was reminiscent of kindergarten and the ricrac or ribbon would hide them.

I use three sheets of designer paper from the same pack (a Hobby Lobby exclusive - or at least I didn't see it anywhere else and I got it several years ago and never saw it again) and mounted it on brown cardstock. The ribbon was a Martha Stewart package of pre-made bows on close out at Walmart that I had to glue on because the adhesive had already "given up". And lastly, the image that I colored with my Bic markers is from the CDAC Progressive Challenge. I participated last month and got new images to play with this week. Hopefully I can do it again and continue to the end of the challenges.

Well, putting in the photos, I discover that I forgot the three accents in the upper right corner. Oh well.

I did keep this card pretty simple. I stamped on light pink paper a circle and placed the sentiment inside. I placed a ribbon behind it, V-cut the ends, and put it on top of the paper rectangles. I inked the edges of all the rectangles and stuck them all down.

Time for another Creat-A-Card sketch:
I decided to make a center opening card with this sketch.

The photo quality is a bit low but otherwise I think you can see the card. I used red pre-rippled cardstock, brown adhesive ribbon, and green dotted paper. Since the stamped image didn't show up well on corrugated paper (that's a butterfly in the red square with gold brads), I stamped Thanks! on a scrap of cardstock then cut it out closely and used pop-dots to lift it up.

Bookmark Card

It's kind of hard to see (don't know why it ended up looking so small - must be the ribbon extending above) but this is a bookmark card that I made so I'd have another Birthday Card ready to go (Septemeber is full of B-days). I may have to try and get a better scan of the card - or at least of the colored image so you can see the details better. I colored my image with Prismacolor and other alcohol markers. I used Glossy Accents on the cherries on the cake and on the buttons on the coat. The rectangular edge of the image was distressed and mounted onto tan cardstock. I used that same tan cardstock to stamp the sentiment then mounted it on dark aqua cardstock. The ribbon on the detachable book mark was put thru a hole but the ribbon was too stiff to make a good knot, so then I glued it. The glue made the paper weak so I added some scrap of cardstock to reinforce the area and stapled the ribbon. I stamped a small polka dotted gift box on the plain side.

I made this card to fit specific challenges:
First I got the image for a Progressive Challenge. Do this first challenge to be able to particpate in the next one. I got half a dozen images to chose from (you'll see the some of the others in other cards soon) but I thought this one could make a good B-day card.
Another challenge this can go for is Spots and Dots by Stampin' for the Weekend.
Also Raise the Bar has an open, anything-goes challenge.

CAC Sketche card 8-2

It's been a while since I made a card. Summer's about over and it is time to get back to work (thank goodness - summer break wears me out with the extra house work {this year: new roof, painted the dining room and hallway walls plus the regular yard work, swimming lessons, sorting out too-small clothing, stopping the fights between the boys, etc.} and I'm ready for meeting my new student). Back to school means making sure I have a minimum of 5 birthday cards in my drawer to give to my co-workers (4 Core teachers and the Special Ed. case manager; if I find out the birthdays of any of the Encore teachers (art, music, P.E., Family and Consumer Science, Health, Gateway to Technology, etc.) and if I need more, I can always make more to finish out the school year. I also like to have a couple of thank you cards ready (esp. around Christmas and end of school).

Here is the card sketch for this week: And here's what I came up with:

I kept it pretty simple. I used two pieces of sheer wired ribbon (one of them doesn't have the wire anymore because I played with it too much) for the decorative edge and a shorter piece that I ran a bit of thread thru the middle to draw up and gather for the "bow" that I glued onto the ribbon. Then I used a Big&Juicy rainbow pad (the purple end) to stamp the swirls and dark brown ink to stamp the sentiment.

Sorry I've been MIA but it's been a weird couple of months. The biggest thing is that my youngest son and I were bit by a squirrel that somehow got into our house. It got DS2 first and then I shoved my hand in its mouth trying to get DS2's hand out. Of course it would bite our dominate hands making it difficult to write or type. It wasn't easy, but I was still able to work Summer School. It put a crimp in my personal plans too. I planned on cleaning up my craft room but I decided to take it easy on my sore hand and am just now getting to the craft room. I've gotten a lot done today, and I even got some of my mending pile minimized and found the cards that I started in May that were still WIPs (Work In Progress).

I wasn't able to put the finishing touches onto my June sketch card back when I started them in May but for now I think I'll just post them anyway. The first three just need to be mounted onto a card base. The last one needs something in the square but it's already on a card base. I can make it into a birthday card, or another Thank you card.

Tuesday morning, I'm driving into town when I start to hear a metallic noise 'pinging' in the engine. I call DH , he tells me to go to work but take it in after school. I do, and they say I'm a couple quarts low so I call DH and we tell the mechanics to give it an oil change and change the filter (the odomoter reading is 80079 so it's time). They tell me that a lot of metal came out with the very dirty oil and the engine could go at any time (maybe a few months, maybe less). I drive home after paying.
That evening, DH and I are talking. DH was going to give it an oil change this weekend, why was the oil so dirty and low? If the oil was that low, where were my warning lights? Why was my engine still running at a normal temperature? DH drove it the night before and had no lights either. So Wednesday we take it back to the Ford mechanics and tell them to find out what's wrong, tell us where the oil went to, and if possible, what two pieces of metal are hitting each other. The mechanics tell us that it'll cost $90 just to look and we say OK, do it. Later they call DH and tell him that the oil filter was "crushed and clogged". (So they're telling me that driving less than 30 miles after an oil change could crush and clog the oil filter?) We wonder if they really changed the oil filter the day before even though it was listed on the receipt when I paid for it. And they won't look into the engine to find out anything. At least they didn't charge us the $90. DH has it towed home, and starts the engine. He checks the oil filter (it's new now - too bad he didn't check it the night before) and he checks the oil on the dipstick. That oil is still dirty looking but the noise isn't happening. So we are thinking that maybe the damage isn't as bad as they led us to believe. Maybe the engine just needs to have an oil change every month to clean out whatever caused the problem in the first place. Still don't know why it was a couple of quarts short, but if we give it oil more often, we can avoid Tuesday's problem. It'll take a while, but if we just drive around town for a while, maybe we can eventually trust it again.
Thursday, when DH brings me home (he's taking me to work and back) we start the SUV again and the noise is back again. DH does more research online at work and he's thinking the tie rod is going to go out and then there's no recovery from that. I had that happen to my Nova approximately 11 years ago. The Nova's 'ping' noise was louder than what I'm hearing with the SUV.
DH wants to get a "cheap" car that the family can fit in, and maybe eventually fix the SUV. We still owe over $7000 on it, it's only three and a half years old but it's had major transmission problems twice already (those were in it's first year) and now this. He's thinking of ways to get it to Machen's Ford in Columbia to have their mechanics replace the engine (we aren't allowing Kehoe's mechanics to touch it again).

I have been creating cards still, but haven't been on the computer to get them posted. Part of it is printer problems and keeping up with the family, forcing me to check email on a different computer and then leave to get back to life.

This one uses my new cuttlebug folder.

I wanted to have a verse on the tag, but this is when my printer started to not work.

DH hasn't figured out why.

I used light green chalk ink to stamp my flowers, a darker green to make my cuttlebug embossing show up, and black ink for the stitches. I don't remember the name of the stamp set but I remember it is a Close to my Heart brand and everything looks like stitiches. The black ink didn't dry quickly on the slick cardstock of the striped strip on the bottom, so when I was ready to stick down my "ribbon", I smudged it a little and got some on the white. :(

I used a lot of scrap and pre-printed stuff so I don't remember where I got the flowers (I hand drew the vase however) nor do I remember where the Thank You in the circle came from either.

The sketch and the card:

I colored the ice cream cone to look like cherry or strawberry flavored ice cream (thus the darker spots). I used a couple of digital printable papers for what the ice cream is on (the distressed stripes are from The Angel Company and the wacky plaid is from Hershey Scrapping). The circles are punched with Creative Memories and were made with alcohol inks on glossy paper and ran thru the cuttlebug to emboss the daisies.

Then I get the not-so bright idea to make the stamped word "Celebrate!" easier to see by adding glitter to it. I think it makes the word harder to read now. :(

Another CAC sketch card for you.
And here's the card I came up with...
I embossed the top green piece then used glue to add glitter. The bottom was a piece of scrapbook paper that I stamped "thank you" over and over and over again. LOL
I am trying to make several cards in the new envelope size. I can't seem to find at my local Walmart the 5 3/4 by 4 3/8 inch envelope anymore. All I find is 6 1/2 by 4 3/4. So this card {and last week's cards (and next week's card too)} is 4 by 6 inches.

After Christmas break, it's time to get back to making cards and time for create-a-card sketches. Here's the first sketch of 2011.
And I made this card first:
I use an image I had already colored (by Sweet and Sassy), mounted it on the same green cardstock that is on the side and that has the sentiment on it. The sentiment was framed with a Creative Memories pre-cut frame and the ribbon was a peel and stick from Walmart.

I thought the green one was a little plain so I made this one next.

I used a cuttlebug folder to emboss the card base and the cardstock on the side. I use a red CatsEye inkpad to color the the raised image on the pink cardstock and I sanded the raised embossing on the red. I used a Fluffles image, colored with watercolor markers and a glittery paint in the middle of the largest flower. I had some tiny flower punches that I had ran thru my xyron a while back so I decided to use them here. The Thank You sentiment is a Studio G stamp that I cut out, and mounted on some bright pink cardstock (same as around the image above).

The picture isn't the best, but here's the angels that Zachary and I made for his and Nathan's teachers. I got the instructions from Crafters Digital Art Center. I couldn't find at Hobby Lobby the exact materials so I had to improvise (1" ornaments, and black or hot pink were my only choices so I chose the black ones). I also didn't have gold pipe cleaners so I used some glitter glue to make color coordinated halos (green angel has green halo, etc.) These angles were given as gifts to my sons' teachers. I intended to make some for the teachers I work with but was too sick (it only took an evening to make them but that tells you how ill I was). I want to try again someday and keep some for me.

I made this card for a Congrats on the Baptism/Happy Birthday party-in-one. Luckily, I took a photo of it in the car before I gave it to her or else you wouldn't get to see and I wouldn't get to remember it later. I used more of the photo paper with alcohol ink (I so enjoy playing with them) and got a new design. I ran the big piece thru the cuttlebug using a quickcutz embossing folder then used a fiskar's decorative corner rounder. I inked the raised parts a tiny part with green. The sentiment is a Angel Company stamp and the Owl is by Sew Many Cards. The ribbon, also with an owl, is from JoAnns.

Here's another Create-A-Card sketch card. I did use a fancy edge cutter for the sentiment rectangle but otherwise it looks like the sketch. I used my alcohol inks to make my 'papers'. I used Stylized Flowers embossing folder for the background, inked with Dusk Blue to help it show up better and to tie in with my edge color. I also used a teal blue glitter glue for the dots.

I've bought several kits from Walmart and Michaels (Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's don't have kits although the bracelets in the third photo came from JoAnn's dollar bin). I have some more kits to make when I get more time.

I watercolor painted Fluffles and the hot pink frame is cut with my Cricut and Sure Cuts a Lot program. The brown ribbon with with dots is a sticker and so are the flowers on the frame. The other ribbons are fabric. The sentiment is a phrase I found in my stash. And the peach cardstock was run thru my cuttlebug and inked with brown.

I used my creative memories cutting system to make the circles and the red "stripes" is actually corrugated cardstock (it came in one of those scrap packs that way). The ribbon was a scrap from something that seemed perfect for this card.

OK...I'm just going to give the quick details. I ran a piece of smoke colored velum thru my cuttlebug. I tore the edge to make it look like a decorative edge along the top. I then tried to use some white paint to settle in the swirls on the back but that didnt' work so I used a blue marker to color it instead. Nest I used a cat sticker and my Creative Memories custom cutting system to make all the circles. I used a black pen for the faux stitching. I stamped a Stampin' Up sentiment that I bought at a garage sale with dark brown ink on the smallest circle. Everything was stuck down similar to the sketch, with a few flowers from the cat sticker sheet, and I was done.

I embossed the greenish-gold squares with my cuttlebug, then outlined it with black marker. Next I added glitter to the cupcakes. The other squares were cut from wrapping paper samples that come in my kids school fund-raising catalog. I stamped the birthday sentiment on another piece of the green/gold then matted it on another piece of orange cardstock. I sent this card to my future sister-in-law for her birthday.

First, sorry for the blurry photo. Here's the original sketch.I rotated the sketch (probably the easiest sketch to rotate ever) and used my Creative Memories smallest circle punch to make the circles. I could have squeezed another row of circles but I didn't have any more brads (I used two packages just to do this card). The colored circles were colored by me with my Tim Holtz Adirondack alcohol inks. I mounted the circles on another peice of alcohol inked paper and then mounted that on my card base. I rubbed the edges with gold paint.

I'm entering this card into ColourQ's color pallet of Burgundy, Red, Blue, Navy and White. The girl is colored with alcohol markers on cream cardstock (I used a white gel pen to give her white eyes and white on her collar and cuff). I added glitter to the center of the flowers (too bad they don't show up better) and to the heart (that shows up well however) to perhaps signify the glitter of fireworks bursting in the air. The flowers are from Daisy Crazy Lillian tube of Prima flowers except the white ones came from Oriental Trading Company box.

Well, sadly, that card is my very last post as DT for Sew Many Challenges. They are going to take a little unexpected break and I think I'll take a short break over the 4th of July week too. Also, I have decided not to apply for another term and to move onto other projects..namely Tiger Den Leader (BIG change - LOL).

Over the past year, I have had a wonderful time with Sew Many Challenges, and I would like to publicly thank Angela for the privilege of working with her SEW cute images, (she is certainly a talented artist) and thanks to Jeri who is the team's coordinator. It has been an honor and privilege to work with these two ladies and the entire team (all extremely talented ladies). I will miss working with you all, but you will still see me because I plan to continue using SEW MANY images and enter into as many challenges as time will allow.

This week at Sew Many Cards, it's Anything Goes. I'm following this sketch and InLinkz color challenge to make a boy's birthday card. (I thought it was a month-long color challenge and I kept putting it off and now that I have the card done (long before this post) I see the challenge is closed already). The color challenge is to use a Purple, Orange, Green and Turquiose. The Panda tag is removable and the green is a pocket for the card. The purple and green cardstocks were embossed with Quickcutz folders called Dots (officially they both are simply called Dots but one is big and the other small but they are different folders). I lightly sanded the large purple dots but the small dots I inked the other side with blue so the green dots were still green. The flowers are from Oriental Trading Company. The centers are made with a big dot of Studio G glitter glue.

Just a quick note about this card. I followed the color pallet by Color Throwdown and the sketch by Crafty Ho's Moving Along with the Times. This card was giving by my husband to his father so I guess that qualifies it for Ann's Creative Nook for the It's a Man's World challenge. I have embossing on the green squares and the blue background so I can be a part of Caardvarks embossing challenge and Mark's Speedy Cat Challenge.

Puppy Love

I was following Stampavie's sketch and Color Q's color pallet. I colored Hershey the puppy with my alcohol markers and used some scraps of cardstock and designer papers. The flowers are from Oriental Trading Company Summer Fun and the eyelets came from Spare Parts by the Paper Studio. I decorated my solid cardstock with the Sizzix Folder Swirly Vines with Hearts.

Added: I was typing in the challenges (and entering them in at the same time) but a transformer blew the power out and blogger hadn't done an auto save at this point so I'll have to add the people and challenge blogs back in as the comments are left.

I chose to used Owen Saluting Fallen Soldier, a past Friday Freebie that you should have picked up a few weeks ago. :) Speaking of Friday Freebie, be sure to check out the Sew Many Cards Challenge blog for this week's Friday Freebie.

I used a pop-up card pattern that was in a magazine, but I've done it before and have seen it online somewhere (perhaps Paper Craft Planet or Split Coast Stampers). I chose a floral K & Co. paper for my background, used colored pencils to color Owen, printed the Thank You sentiment, and then used a cat's eye chalk in green to distress and color the edges.

Good sentiment for the inside:

Over the mountains and through the woods

To protect us from our foes.

I colored Sew Many's Eris the Elephant With my alcohol markers. I keep wanting to paint the toenails pink or red - LOL. Anyway, I used a quickcuts embossing folder simply named Circles for my decorated rectangles and inked them in brown or dusk blue respectively. I used a pre-adhesive yellow ribbon. Then I took a scrap of the blue cardstock, rubbed the sentiment on and coated it with clear embossing powder several times. After hunting for three matching buttons, I threaded them with some variegated yellow embroidery thread and tied them into bows. I then used my trusty Scotch Quick dry Adhesive (it wasn't not quite dry when this picture was taken but I have a deadline to make)

We are suppose to have a Christmas project with a CD to show you today. You would think with my husband a computer tech/administrator I'd be able to have a dozen old CDs but since knowing about this project, there hasn't been a need to discard any. I was browsing Scrapbooks Etc. website the other day and ran across this http://www.scrapbooksetc.com/crafts/cards/birthday-cards-for-adults/?page=5. I thought, "There's my Christmas CD idea."

I used the following sketches for my front and back CD holder. I can put Christmas music, or photos for family on the CD and give it.

To make the front of my CD holder, I used a Cuttlebug folder for the red snowflakes, a Heidi Swapp sticker ribbon, and the striped paper came from Die Cuts With a View. I colored Morty with my Prisma and Specia glitter markers. The corner holly stamp is a wood mounted stamp by Boyds and I colored it with RoseArt watercolor markers. I also used the same red marker to make the stitch lines around Morty and in the corner.

For the back, I used some of the same stripped DCWV paper and some K&Co. scrap pack paper. The pearls are acrylic disks covered with Adirondack Pearl ink and glued on with Matte Accents.

Elephant Riddle & Pink Flamingo

I used another improved Sew Many Cards image - Eris. I used Stacey's Curtain Color Call #33 of Celery Green, Navy Blue, Sky Blue and White and Paper Craft Planet's sketch for the week. Since I have a riddle, I think that qualifies this card for the Child's Play challenge at Crafty Creations.

I like Stacey's color combo #32 from last week (but then it disappeared when my computer re-booted and for some strange reason I was unable to find it again) so here's a card with that color combo too. My mother-in-law has a friend that likes flamingos so I'll let her give this card to her.
I used a Dustin Pike freebie image. I used an red/pink printed paper that I don't know the name of the pack it came from (I remember I bought it at Walmart but that's all I know about it), then chose an apricot colored cardstock to run thru my Cuttlebug with a Quickcutz floral folder. I colored the raised flowers with a golden-yellow and then a pink ink pad. I used a scrap of yellow ric rac that I have no idea where it came from (I think it might have been in my sewing stash but not sure where it came from...garage sale, what-cha-got-box, given by friends or family, some other??). The pink ribbon came from Target's dollar bin. I typed up the Happy Birthday sentiment with MS Word.

This card is perfect for the 16 year old about to get his/her license. I colored Tayla with two brown markers and the tires with a gray marker then paper pieced the car. I used my alcohol inks to make a red/gold paper, a aqua/silver paper and a green/gold paper, then printed the car three times (once on each paper). After cutting the car body in red and the windows in blue, I did the bumper in green. I also cut the eye/headlights from the blue and tongue from red and glued them on top of their proper spaces. To darken up the window seal, I ran the gray marker in that spot. To finish the card off, I rounded the corners, matted it on a green cardstock scrap then on dark red card base.

Here's yet another improved quality image from Sew Many Cards. I used PaperCraftPlanet's sketch, and the main colors of orange & blue with a little beige (the scarf is beige although you can barely see it). The MAZEL TOV stamp is by Studio G (love that dollar bin at Michael's and JoAnns) and I used Rubber Stampede dark blue on orange paper to stamp it then cut it out. The blue twine is wax coated jewerly cord and the flowers are Prima Sweet & Sassy Dolly. The papers came from a 8x8 pack that I don't remember the manufacture name but I bought it at Walmart a couple of years ago. Everything was mounted on an orange card base.

You can see the colors better in this photo. The photo above doesn't show you the shadows on the snowballs or the light color of the scarf. However, the detail around the eyes doesn't look right in this one (looks better in other picture). And by getting so close, you can see where some of the background chalk got onto the scarf and cheeks.

I chose Owen with Flowers for my Father's day card. I was unable to see my Create A Card sketch a few weeks ago when my internet was out so I decided to use one of those sketches this time.
I colored Owen with my alcohol markers (the only copic brand I have is the flesh tones, all the rest are Bic, Sharpie and Prisma). I added a little dab of Studio G green glitter glue for his buttons. The background papers are made with Adirondack Alcohol Inks in Meadow and Lettuce greens with gold highlights then ran thru the cuttlebug with a Sizzix folder called Flowers and Vines. The redish strip is Currant and Eggplant inks and ran thru the same embossing folder. I used a scrap of gold ribbon and the flower brads came from Making Memories Spring Fling.

Here's is another "new and improved" Sew Many Cards image: Tayla with Balloon. I colored Tayla with colored pencils and embossed the red oval with the paisley cuttlebug folder. I 'smooshed' brown chalk on the oval to "age" it and inked the edge in blue cyan ink. I further aged the card using brown cocoa ink on the edge of the card. It ended up a bit plain so I added white to the red and I think that improved it.

First some personal news...SCHOOL'S OUT!!! I have a lot of things to accomplish this summer before August. Hopefully the rain won't come and stick around again like it did for the past couple of weeks. Now, I get to show you Cammi in an Apple.

My image, printed on white cardstock, was colored with Bic, Sharpie, and PrismaColor Markers. I cut it out and popped it up like Your Next Step challenge. I made my card following Paper Craft Planet's sketch 052210 and A Gem of a Challenge's color scheme to use Burgundy, Pink and Green. I also have met Whimsical Ink Sorority's challenge to use green and to have a decorative border. I quickly stitched some variegated green thread above Cammi and added a couple of transparent pink flowers that I made darker with some Currant alcohol ink dabbed on one side. Mark's Finest Papers/Speedy the Cat's Challenge is to have an animal. KL Stamping and Scrapping is asking for distressed and torn edges. I tore the edges of the green felt-like paper. I think it's some kind of mulberry paper but it is really thick and heavy so I'm not sure. Totally Gorjuss wants to Bling it Up so I added the glitter glue dots and the tiny glitter flower.

SMC CHALLENGE # 14

The challenge this week is to make an Easel card. Turns out that it isn't so difficult...esp. if you have Sure Cuts a Lot and a cutting file that's been created (although I think I could do this without the cutting file now that I have read a tutorial and actually made one). I decided that I need to build up my birthday card supply for next school year so I'm going to be making them (and thank you cards) for a while. I used Miki with Cake image and colored him with Prisma markers. I used a dab of Tulip brand gold fabric paint for the candle flame. I inked the edges of my scallops with a blue Cat's Eye pigment ink pad. I also used that same ink pad for the Happy Birthday sentiment inside the card.

I went for Color Create's color challenge to use KHAKI, AQUA, BROWN and CREAM. I also went for Scrappy Frogs's challenge to Gloss a Mother's day card (I did Cammi) and Just Us Girls' challenge to make a pocket card (the Cammi tag goes into a pocket) and the tag is for Crafty Catz challenge. I used an adhesive-backed ribbon to create my design/texture (whatever you call it).

Tis the Season (NOT!) LOL At Sew Many Cards this week, it is Christmas. I picked Morty with the word JOY for my main image. JOY was colored with Spica Glitter pens (hard to tell but the white is also clear glitter) and Morty with Bic and Sharpie markers. The sentiment is also by SMC. I put it onto a cricut cut tag and used some shear ribbon. The felt flower is by Making Memories and the gold "dots" are clear acrylic disks that I dribbled gold Adirondack alcohol ink on them. I also tried to make the center of the felt flower match the dot. The other pieces of cardstock came from scrap packs and I inked them with Vibrance Green ink. The card was inspired by the sketch provided by Christmas and Birthday cards blog. I'm also submitting it to Dare You to Digi Stamp's Anything Goes challenge.

Tuesday cards

I've colored Eris and his flowers with my Bic markers and the formally clear dew drops with Pearl alcohol ink. The cardstock is all scraps (I sorted thru all of them Sunday so I'm ready to use up some of those other pieces). I cuttlebugged the light green cardstock with a border embossing folder and inked it a tiny bit to help it show up. I used the same ink to stamp 'Thanks' (I used only part of the word Thanksgiving)

Fred She Said has the challenge to Create a 3D Gift for a Loved One...This is for my Mother in Law (I've made sheep cards for her in the past). I printed Elie in 4 different sizes. I used Fun Flock in White, Yellow and Cantaloupe and watercolor markers for the nose and hooves. The cards are made from a Stampin' Up Christmas paper pack in olive and pink (I bought it at a garage sale last year then again this year so I must have liked it - LOL). I also printed out the sentiments using MS word and a bunch of different fonts. For each card, I raided various "odds & ends" (except the ribbon) for pretty and different ways for decoration. This week at SMC, the challenge it open to do anything you'd like. Well, I had these tee-shirt my boys outgrew but I have a niece that should be able to wear them. But a plain white shirt isn't a fun gift so I decided to dress them up with the cutest images around. I have an inkjet printer, so I just printed one image that was enlarged to fit, sprayed a little water on the paper, then ironed it on the shirt.

Then I went over the black lines with black sharpie, and colored it with my sharpie and bic markers.To finished it off, I ironed it again thinking that would heat set the colors but it caused the blue patches to bleed. I guess I should have let it dry longer before I tried to heat set just to make sure that it was truly dry. (Alcohol markers...who knew they wouldn't dry quickly on cotton)

So then I washed the shirts since I had bleeding from the ink. Ink then went over all the others in other spots! So I decided to take my markers and decorate each one differently to disguise the mistake smudge.

I like the speckles with Jovi the best.

This week Jeri has a sketch challenge going on this week and this is what I came up with!

I colored the heart pillow with colored pencils (see tutorial here) and picked more hearts for the card background from Born to Be Wild by Momenta.com (I believe I bought it at the Tuesday Morning store). The ribbon came from Oriental Trading Co.

Here’s another card I created.

I used the color scheme from last week’s PaperCraftPlanet challenge: Monochromatic Orange pcpcolor62 and the current Tuesday Sketch for my Create a Card group. I again colored the ink bottle (today’s Friday Freebie) with colored pencils. I didn’t have a stamp that said what I wanted to say, and I don’t have orange ink in my printer so I hand wrote the sentiment. I need to use this card for my friend in Alaska that I need to write to.

How I color with Colored Pencils

Disclaimer1: This is my first tutorial.
Disclaimer2: I used my scanner for the photos and I'm just now noticing the glass surface needs to be clean.
Disclaimer3: Pardon the quality of the stamped image...my printer is starting to give me trouble and I used a ultra fine sharpie to fill in where it would skip (it doesn't do it consistently but I'm not going to print 1000 copies hoping to get a good image eventually). Someday, I'd like to get a new printer/scanner combo (my printer is so old that I'm starting to have a hard time finding replacement cartridges) but I just found out today that I'm not going to be working summer school (budget cuts) so there won't be extra money this summer this after. :(

As you can see...I don't have to use fancy colored pencils. I have some, and I would love to have the entire color collection on a particular brand (probably prisma) but I can achieve what I need with what I've got. I have pictured here a Crayola pink, Pentech pink, an unknown brand of pink and another unknown red. I also have Rose Art brand colored pencils (I just didn't pull one out of my bag for this photo). I chose my colors by picking out several colors that are similar (think "Monochromatic"). The three pinks happen to look the same when I did a tiny test swatch so I only used one pink pencil and the red for my coloring below.

I wanted the ribbon to look like a satin ribbon and I know that the lightest part of the bow is near the highest point on the bow. I lightly colored up to that point.

Next, I colored the outer edges and the part next to the knot another layer of pink, pressing a little harder. As you can see, I didn't go all the way to the edge of pink/white border.

Then I used my red pencil to color the inside of the ribbon and the crease lines near the knot and the tie ends under the knot.

Then I used the pink to blend the red.

Now I'm ready to color the heart. This time I used the red to lightly outline where I wanted the shiny spot to be so I'd know where to stop.

And colored it lightly with the red pencil. There isn't a big difference between the red and the pink yet.

Then I colored a little bit more, but didn't go all the way to the red/white edge again.

Since I did not want a stark white "shiny" spot (to me that is for things that have a high gloss finish like hard plastic and I wanted this to look like a soft pillow), I took my pink pencil and lightly colored over the white area so that it blended in.

The finished product !!!

I was sent these images for a swap.
And here's what I came up with.

I used colored pencils on the first image.
I also followed the current challenge at PaperCraftPlanet. Raise the bar challenge wants to see me "Spring for it" with flowers. I have the flowers in the vases and one on the ribbon plus the brad is a flower too. That makes 6 flowers total. I also used a thick chipboard tag from Flower Fairies (freebie set that came with a magazine bought at Barns & Noble). All edges were inked with Rubber Stampeed lilac ink (qualifying it for One Stitch At a Time's distressing challenge and Your Next Stamp's challenge to use purple.

For my second card I used watercolors. I also tried out my Alcohol Inks. They were a lot of fun to play with (I made several "papers").
I colored the vases with aqua and blue pan watercolors (those are the kind you had as a kid in school). The flowers were colored with watercolor markers (various brands). I chose to use Lili of the Valley's color scheme of blue and silver (thus the color combo of Stream and Silver inks in the blending handle) and follow a sketch that is coming up on Create A Card. Lots to Do wants to see embossing so I embossed the bottom rectangle using Morroccan Screen, the side block with Checkerboard (both tilted) and the image mat using Oriental Weave (all Cuttlebug folders).

What's the challenge? TECHNIQUE CHALLENGE -- PROJECT USING STITCHING. It can be real stitching with a machine, faux stitching, pen/marker stitching, whatever your fancy.

On my Create a Card group, the "Make it Monday" challenge was to make a bookmark card so that's what I have tried here. I used Michelle's measurements because I liked the idea of a skinnier bookmark (in relation to the height). I cut it 10 1/2" x 5 1/2". I then scored at 4 1/4" and perforate at 8 1/2". I used a 12x12 cardstock by Heidi grace Designs called Loving You Stripes. Then I used Cowboy Boot Donkey for my image and colored him with my alcohol markers. I did decorate the patch on Donkey with white dots to make it look like a scrap piece of fabric was really sewn on him. I used a white gel pen an a green ultra fine point sharpie to create my faux stitching. I chose three prima flowers (the ones with O's are called Abby but the solid pink I don't have a name for it), two green glitter brads and one Oriental Trading Co. pink gem brad, and the buttons came from a grab bag from Walmart. I screwed up the sketch and had to add a circle that I had punched out extra for another card but didn't use (luckily it was mostly pink and green on one side). The pink border was also left over from a card making evening. Below you can see the bookmark that the recipient will be able to tear off.
